Brainery Hack: Etabs

by Silvia Mazzoni
This Brainery Hack converts your CSI-Etabs model automatically into: All in one simple step -- export your Etabs model AS IS.

What is an "OpernSees Starter File"?

It is your first step in translating your ETABS model into OpenSeesPy format. It won't do everything for you -- but it'll save you hours of manual setup and debugging!
The file contains the parts of the Etabs model. Some have been translated to something similar in OpenSees, others are set up for you to edit.

How It Works

  1. Upload your .e2k file (from ETABS export).
  2. This tool reads the structure and geometry.
  3. It creates downloadable .html, .py, and .json files.
  4. Allow file download and save these files locally on your computer.
  5. Open your model-preview .html file to make sure the element geometry was translated accurately.
  6. Build your OpenSees model by editing the OpenSeesPy Starter .pyfile manually.
  7. Visualize your model: the OpenSeesPy Starter .pyfile includes a model-viz script.
  8. Use the model-data .json file to automate model generation and visualization (Enterprise edition only).
